A new TV promotional video for the upcoming second season of The CW's The Flash has been released. The 10-second long clip packs in a lot of action and a few clues about what fans can expect to see.

https://youtu.be/K7c8SkKF7Y8&h=500

One character making his first appearance in the video is Atom-Smasher, played by ex-WWE star Adam "Edge" Copeland. The CW has described his character as:

"One of the most powerful enemies we encounter this season, Atom Smasher has come to Central City to kill the Flash. His incredible strength and ability to grow to enormous size makes him more than a match for Flash and the entire S.T.A.R. Labs team will have to come together to find a way to defeat him."

Atom-Smasher's comic-verse alter-ego is Al Rothstein, who was a hero. One of the most popular comic arcs involving Rothstein was penned by The Flash executive producer Geoff Johns and saw Rothstein go mad after the murder of his mother, resulting in him travelling back in time to try to save her. That particular aspect of his character, and his extensive connections to Earth-2 could be the way the character is introduced to the Flash-verse.

This seems especially likely, given that the producers have confirmed Earth-2 as the source of many of this season's new characters. It's also interesting to note that Al Rothstein was one of the names on the list of those who died in the particle accelerator explosion - a list that included others who seemingly returned from the dead.

The promo also features Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) wielding what appears to be a Flash-signal: literally a giant spotlight with a lightening bolt down the middle. Let us know what you think of this interesting development in the comments!

The Flash will return on Tuesday October 6 at 8:00 p.m. on The CW.
