According to director Marc Webb, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will not be overrun with villains.
The issue was brought up during the panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con by a fan, who recalled the problem that overshadowed Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3.
“The main villain in this movie is Electro,” said Webb about the new feature.“That’s the obstacle that he’s got to fight and Paul Giamatti makes an appearance [as the Rhino] and there’s a couple of scenes with him in, but that was to establish sort of a fun tone.”
Webb continued by adding, “Electro is an incredibly powerful villain and one that is sustained for the breadth and depth of the film.”
Giving insight into just how powerful Foxx’s character is, Webb described Electro as being “god-like,” and is a villain that will present a “unique physical challenge” for Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man.
“How does Spider-Man fight someone when, if you touch him, it’s like touching a thousand third rails? When your main weapon is a web that conducts electricity, how do you fight that guy? How do you fight a guy who reaches out to an electric socket and can disappear into it and merge with electricity? It’s a terrifying possibility.”
In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, we will also see the first appearance of Harry Osborn played by Dane DeHaan along with his father Norman, played by the talented yet menacing Chris Cooper.
Keep those web-slingers handy as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swings into UK theaters April 18th, 2014 and US theaters May 2, 2014.
