Remember when Vin Diesel hinted at Comic-Con that he would be making a big Marvel-related announcement later that month? A few weeks later it was announced that he would be playing Groot (you know, giant anthropomorphic alien tree) in Guardians of the Galaxy, but that was originally not on the cards!
That’s right. It turns out the announcement Diesel was talking about at his Riddick panel may not have even been about his Guardians role! The actor recently revealed that the plan had been for him to potentially star in a new project for Marvel.
Diesel would have helped kick off the next phase of Marvel films (as detailed by Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige), likely in a film other than the previously-announced Ant-Man. Of course, Diesel did not reveal what the apparently scrapped project would have been.
Guardians of the Galaxy is currently being filmed across the pond, and it can be assumed that Diesel, although he plays a CGI character, is there as well. Especially as it turns out that in addition to voiceover duties, Diesel will be shooting motion capture for the film. Along with Diesel, the film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Lee Pace, and quite a few more recognizable faces.
Guardians of the Galaxy is set to blast into theaters August 1, 2014.
