Hollande spoke out for same-sex equality in his campaign last year, and it seems that he held through for his promise. Gay couples all over France will be able to hold their ceremonies in 10 days, on May 29th.

Many are already signing up to be wed at their local city halls as we speak. Talks of protests against the law and against Hollande are going around, including one of May 26th, where the leader of the UMP party, Jean-Francois Cope, may be involved. In response, Hollande spoke saying that if there will be no disruptions of the first gay marriages in France.

The countries that France is joining with include:
-The Netherlands
– Belgium
– Spain
-Canada
-South Africa
-Norway
-Sweden
-Portugal
-Iceland
-Argentina
-Denmark
-New Zealand
-Uruguay

In the United States, along with the country’s capital, Washington D.C, there are 12 states with marriage equality:

-Minnesota
-Iowa
-New York
-Maryland
-Delaware
-Connecticut
-Massachusats
-Vermont
-Rhode Island
-New Hampshire
-Washington
-Maine

So congratulations France, on continuing the journey to complete equal rights for all people.
