If you do a good deed and it makes its way to Ellen Degeneres' front desk, it might just pay off -- literally. During the government shutdown, two uniformed National Guard soldiers stopped by Ruby Tuesday's to grab some lunch. A 21-year-old single mother, named Sarah Hoidahl, was the soldiers' waitress. They mentioned that they weren't getting paid because of the government shutdown. When the soldiers asked for the bill, they got something completely different -- a letter that said "Thanks to the gov. shutdown the people like you that protect this country are not getting paid. However I still am. Lunch is on me! Thank you for serving ladies! Have a good day!" The soldiers posted a picture of Hoidahl and the letter on the New Hampshire National Guard's Facebook, and it immediately went viral, amassing over 3,000 shares. Ellen Degeneres heard of it, and, loving inspiring stories, she asked Hoidahl to appear on her show. Hoidahl and Degeneres discussed the good deed, Hoidahl saying that she left work that day with eight dollars in her pocket, "Not even enough to cover my gas," she said cheerily. "And now I'm on ELLEN!" Degeneres took out a coin purse and repaid Hoidahl for the bill, while Hoidahl collapsed into giggles. The giggles turned to wide-eyed disbelief when Degeneres gave her a 50-inch flat screen television. And the wide-eyed disbelief turned to tears when Degeneres wrote her a $10,000 check. Watch the video and we dare you not to cry when she does, and nod along as Degeneres hugs her and says "You're a good person." [wpvideo p5MdCaFP]
