Beth is back! She’s alive and, mostly, well (save a few cuts and bruises). This week’s episode, “Slabtown,” was certainly an informative one!

She’s in a creepy hospital surrounded by an abrasive cop who will clearly kill her at the first transgression, and a doctor who is just loopy enough to be a wildcard (so far). Not sure if he is friend or foe yet, but the cop is undoubtedly foe. She tells Beth that she saved her from certain death on the side of the road. When Beth asks about Daryl, the cop says that Beth was alone and that she would be a walker by now if they hadn’t saved her…which now means that Beth owes them.

Yeah, Officer Dawn is bad news bears. Beth meets another officer in the cafeteria who also seems hung up on Beth showing some sort of gratitude for them stealing her away from Daryl. He tells her she better start kissing his ass or he’ll start writing down everything she takes…because nothing is free. Beth walks away and takes the doctor his lunch when Officer Dawn bursts in and says that they have another, and he needs medical attention away.

The doctor is unable to do anything as dude fell from a window and is bleeding internally. When the doctor delivers this bad news, Officer Dawn inexplicably slaps Beth across the face. Then we go to commercial and we’re all confused.

Doc tells Beth that Dawn is always like that, then tells her to change so she’s tidy, since that’s how Dawn likes it. Then they run to try and save someone else, someone who had tried to get away. But, instead, she got bit by a walker and is now dying. So they saw her arm off. Apparently, Dawn used to say that they shouldn’t waste their resources on lost causes, but she’s been demanding they try and save everyone these days.

Beth meets Noah, who is basically Dawn’s bitch, as he irons some clothes. He starts to talk about how this group left his dad behind on purpose because he was big and that he would fight back. Something Dawn, who is “in charge, but just barely.” He says he’ll be dipping out as soon as possible.

Beth and Dawn are having a heart-to-heart right now. Dawn says that she’s feeding, sheltering and clothing Beth and that it’s something that has never been given for free. Beth tells her that she never asked for her help, and Dawn points out that she gave it to her anyway. Dawn tells Beth that she must pay off her debt before she’s allowed to leave, and that in order to do that, she must eat and regain her strength.

Beth, no. DO NOT DRINK THE KOOLAID! Ugh. She drank the koolaid.

Now Beth is chatting with the woman whose arm got chopped off, Joan. She would clearly rather be dead than less an arm and still in this hospital with these evangelists.

Okay Officer Gorman is literally the biggest douche bag that has ever lived. He’s a rapey, misogynistic pervert, shoving his sucker into Beth’s mouth. The doctor comes in and tells Officer Gorman to back off, to which Gorman replies, “She should’a been mine.” The doctor tells him that nobody is “his” and that he “won’t be getting Joan back, either.” Gorman says that he WILL be getting her back, and that maybe soon someone will be in charge other than Dawn. They all brood off and now the doc is taking Beth down into the basement.

She asks him why he would stay when he can leave whenever he wants. So he takes her downstairs to see a room full of walkers? Mmkay.

Now they’re on the roof talking about this dude’s origin story talking about what they were doing when the city fell. If I’m being completely honest I don’t really care. He has some sob story and tells us why Dawn is in charge and why they should cut her some slack and it all sounds like the biggest bag of bullshit ever.

Beth goes to give a patient an IV per the doctor’s instructions. Except the doctor told Beth to give the patient the wrong medicine, and now he’s dead. The cute boy Noah takes the blame and the punishment, and the doctor denies his transgression. Dawn corners Beth and finds out that Dawn already knew all about the fake story Noah told, but says she had to punish him anyway. Then she pretty much tells Beth that the wards are here to keep the officers happy and the officers are there to keep everyone safe.

So this woman is telling Beth that she should have laid down and just taken it from that creep Gorman and that if she can’t just take whatever is coming for her for the sake of the greater good, she needs to gets out of their way and make room for those who can.

Noah and Beth are going to try and escape and now Beth is looking through some files. She sees some blood pooled in the office and notices that Joan is lying dead on the floor after carving “Fuck you” into the floor and cutting her own wrist. Beth is still looking through some cabinets and finally finds a key before Gorman comes in and catches her. He tells her maybe he won’t tell Dawn if Beth agrees to sleep with him. Beth notices that Joan is about to reanimate and plays along long enough for the walker to rise and attack that douche bag and take him out.

I’m getting a little annoyed because I HATE these episodes that focus on only one small sample of the core group, especially after everything that happened last week. But the action has been good so far so I can overlook it for now.

Beth and Noah are scaling down the elevator into the den of dead bodies and have chosen this as their escape route. But, I guess it’s not really THAT bad of an idea, other than how gross it all is. Anywho, now they’re in the pitch black basement that is apparently filled with walkers. But Beth grabbed the officer’s gun and takes care of them. They’re out in the parking lot now which is also teeming with walkers. Noah is clearly not going to make it, but Beth is taking them out and stomping their heads, and it’s all shot really beautifully.

Except Noah DOES make it out of the gates, thanks to Beth, while Beth gets tackled by an officer. Bummer. She was so close.

Now Beth and Dawn are back in the hospital and Beth is basically telling Dawn that she’s worse than the rapists because she knew what was happening and did nothing about it. Then Dawn takes a picture frame and bashes Beth across the forehead with it. It goes to black before we see her in the doctor’s office.

Beth calls him out for killing the doctor so that he wouldn’t have any competition. He admits it and says that, if there were another doctor, they would certainly kick him out and he’d be on the streets alone. He basically compares himself to Jesus Christ and again spouts more bullshit than I can follow and leaves the room.

Beth is walking down the hall to slash the doctor’s throat when they wheel another patient in on a gurney, and we find out that it’s Carol. It’s FUCKING CAROL. Noooooooooo. I have to believe that this is maybe a plot, or something, to get Beth out? Ugh, I guess we’ll have to wait a few weeks to find out, because it looks like next week we’re going to see Abe, Rosita, Eugene, Glenn and Maggie next week. I HATE THAT! I like it so much better when the whole group is together.
