“Greed… is good.”
Or at least, that’s what stock market king Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas) said back in 1987 in Oliver Stone’s Wall Street. Like the previously posted Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) and E.T. the Extra Terrestrial (1982), Wall Street is also celebrating an anniversary this year: 30 years. Long before Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) starring Leonardo DiCaprio, gutsy and ambitious, but naive, Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen) was taken under Gekko’s wing in the New York world of brokers and high finance, where a little bit of greed, manipulation, and power got out of control. Director Oliver Stone brought us a thought-provoking sequel to this film a few years back called Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (2010) with Michael Douglas and Shia LaBeouf (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)), but if you haven’t seen the original film, it is definitely deserving of the word “classic,” and this white-knuckle drama is coming back to the big screen in just a couple of weeks for two days only!
Brought to you by Fathom Events and Twentieth Century Fox, this re-release of the ’80s powerhouse “don’t trust anybody” money epic that deservedly won Michael Douglas (last seen in Marvel’s Ant-Man (2015)) an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Leading Role, will also feature a special retrospective featurette appropriately called, “Greed is Good.”
Directed by Oliver Stone (Snowden (2016), Savages (2012)), Wall Street is rated R and stars Michael Douglas (Last Vegas (2013)), Charlie Sheen (Two and a Half Men (2003-15)), Daryl Hannah (Splash (1984)), Tamara Tunie (Flight (2012)), Hal Holbrook (Lincoln (2012)), John C. McKinley (Scrubs (2001-10)), and Martin Sheen (The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)), and breaks into select theaters on September 24, 2017 and September 27, 2017 only.
