Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man And The Wasp’ Adds Michelle Pfeiffer, Laurence Fishburne, And Walton Goggins

Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp” has added three new cast members: Michelle Pfeiffer, Laurence Fishburne, and Walton Goggins.

It’s official: Michelle Pfeiffer, Laurence Fishburne, and Walton Goggins will be joining the ever-growing Marvel family and are set to appear in Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Details on the movie, which will reunite co-stars Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly, were teased at Marvel’s Comic-Con presentation this Saturday, which gave all the lucky Hall H attendees first looks at the franchise’s upcoming projects, including the Ant-Man sequel.

Pfeiffer will play Janet van Dyne, wife Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and mother to hope (Lilly). In the comic books, she is the original Wasp, and a founding member of the Avengers.

Fishburne, meanwhile, will be play Bill Foster, a scientist who worked alongside Hank Pym before becoming a superhero in his own right–first as Black Goliath, then as Giant-Man.

As for Goggins, it was revealed last week that he would be joining the movie, though nobody knew what his role would be. We now know that Goggins will play Sonny Birch, chairman of a weapons design company, once connected to Iron Man’s original villain Obadiah Stane.

This last casting choice is one that I am personally over the moon about. You’re probably reacting to the news in one of two ways: Who is Walton Goggins? or OH MY GOD, WALTON GOGGINS! There really is no in-between when it comes to this guy.

Basically, you either love Walton Goggins, or you just don’t know him yet.

Whether he’s playing a transgender dominatrix with a heart of gold (Sons of Anarchy), a crooked drug-running detective (The Shield), or a silver-tongued criminal mastermind (Justified), Goggins is always a scene-stealer. And if you haven’t gotten around to binging any of those shows yet, try Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, and you should get the idea.

If this new casting isn’t exciting enough for you, Ant-Man co-star David Dastmalchian told Entertainment Weekly that the upcoming sequel “is going to do things in the Marvel universe that they haven’t gotten the opportunity to do yet.” What could this possibly mean?

Ant-Man and the Wasp will open on July 6, 2018.
