Watch The Trailer For The Doctor Who Christmas Special | Christmas special

Doctor Who is back in our favorite way: the Christmas Special! Every year at Christmas, we get a special episode of the beloved BBC show. In recent years, they have been pretty heart-wrenching.

From the Eleventh Doctor's departure to Clara deciding to stay and travel with the Doctor, the show's specials have been tearing our hearts apart.

We got the lovely Matt Smith exit that had us all crying our eyes out. Watching the Doctor literally age out of being his eleventh incarnation was heartbreaking. And, then last year, the Twelfth Doctor got his wish and got to travel with Clara Oswald once more.

But this year's seems a bit different.

It's called "The Return of Doctor Mysterio", and the trailer shows superheroes coming to the aid of the Doctor in New York City. We don't know why or what is going on really, but it seems like a great episode to watch with the family on Christmas day.

Watch the trailer here:

Earlier this month, we got a sneak peek of the episode with the Children In Need special. The scene that was previewed shows the Doctor, Nardole and a reporter about to get shot for 'trespassing' on a man's company property. Check out the sneak peek below.

As per usual, the Doctor Who special will air on Christmas day. Don't miss it; it promises to be cheesy and brilliant and everything we look for in a new episode of our favorite time traveling show!

Also, it comes just in time for us to have our fill before the show's tenth season airs. Doctor Who will return with a new companion -- and for show runner Stephen Moffat's last run -- in the spring of 2017. We can't wait. We've missed our grumpy Doctor!

In the meantime, be sure to tune in on Christmas day and enjoy the wonder that is Doctor Who.
