NBC did something slightly surprising: they renewed Welcome to Sweden. Interesting move, network execs, I look forward to seeing where you take this second season.
When the show returns, there will be 10 episodes of this Greg Poehler-created comedy. It's unclear when the new season will premiere as no definite date has been set just yet. Wildly popular in Sweden, it was actually renewed in Europe before being picked up in the United States.
The series premiered in July and an estimated 3.9 million people tuned in. Currently, approximately 2.9 million fans continue to tune in to watch the comedy. Welcome to Sweden also airs overseas, and it seems approximately 1.8 million watch the program in Sweden.
For those unfamiliar with the TV show, it's based on Greg Poehler's life as it follows Bruce falling in love with a Swedish girl and moving to her homeland so they can stay together. Greg Poehler, Josephine Bornebusch, Ileana Douglas, Patrick Duffy and Lena Olin star in Welcome to Sweden. Amy Poehler, Will Ferrell, Aubrey Plaza and Gene Simmons have all made cameos in this new show.
As to the popularity, Poehler is very thankful. Recently, he said, "It's an amazing feeling to create a show to which people are responding so favorably. We intend to make season two even better."
