The White House Will Ban The Use Of Personal Devices

Personal devices will no longer be allowed in the West Wing according to White House officials, citing security concerns.

It has been a little over a year since President Donald J. Trump took office and every day has brought a new tweet from the White House. Unfortunately, not all of those tweets have been funny or good for the American people. In an effort to "crack down" on some of these messages, the White House has opted to ban "all personal devices."

This news comes hot on the heels of Michael Wolff's new book, Fire and Fury. The book claims to be an inside view of the Trump White House and has "stirred controvery" within the Oval Office.

According to Salon, the security of electronic devices and the messages that they can release is a top priority for White House officials. Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders released a statement that "personal devices of both guests and staff will no longer be allowed in the West Wing."

White House staff will be able to continue their work on their government-issued devices. According to Politico, the White House "has long toyed" with the idea that personal devices should be banned. However, staff members have objected to past attempts to implement the ban, claiming they need their phones to keep in touch with their families.

On January 3, a Trump lawyer attempted to ban the publication of Michael Wolff's book, asking Henry Holt & Co (the publishers) to "immediately cease and desist from any further publication, release or dissemination of the book."

The White House has cited "security concerns" while attempting to implement the personal devices policy.

But does this device ban include President Trump's phone, too?

According to Quartz, Sanders addressed that question in a press briefing: it “has been in process and in the works for over six months,” and “Now that that process is completed, we can move forward and that will start" the second week of January.

While that does not directly answer the question, White House officials claim that Trump, his cabinet, and senior aids "follow security measures related to their phones."
