Anyone who read the book Orange Is The New Black knows that Piper Kerman and Nora (Alex Vause in the show) only spent five weeks in the same prison, and they definitely never had sex while incarcerated. Actually Piper refused to even speak to Nora while they both were on the same plane headed to a new correctional facility--a far cry from what actually happens on the show. Piper and Alex spend their fair share of time together, if you know what I mean.

Until this point, no one had gotten the opportunity to talk to the person who inspired Alex Vause. Say hello to Catherine Cleary Wolters. Fifty-one-year-old Wolters admits to Vanity Fair, “That takes balls the size of Oklahoma”, for Kerman to tell a version of her story. However, she does admit that the show causes her a great deal of stress, and her story wasn’t “about a fun ride through some old familiar haunt". The amazing part is that Wolters admits to watching the show. "I can't help it. It's a great show. The actors are incredible, the story line is interesting, and come on, who doesn't want to see Donna from That '70s Show have lesbian sex?" Of course, she’s talking about Laura Prepon, who just so happens to play Alex Vause. Luckily, Vanity Fair has Piper Kerman’s response to her one-time girlfriend, “The relationship between the characters in the Netflix series, Piper Chapman and Alex Vause, is fictional. I did have the opportunity to make peace with Cleary in Chicago, to relinquish any sense of blame for her, and to work through my ideas and emotions about forgiveness and responsibility…I am exceptionally grateful that our odd chance meeting in Chicago happened, and I wish Cleary a very happy life moving forward." It’s quite surprising that Wolters has not met the character who portrays her on the series, especially since Prepon has shown interest in meeting her, but she was told it wasn’t a possibility. “She is MIA, girl. I do not know where she is. And it's kind of like...we don't talk about the real Alex—I don't know. I did want to meet her, but they were like. That's not possible.' So I don't know where the hell she is,” she said in an interview with Vulture. When Prepon was asked further about meeting Wolters she had this to say, “Honestly, even though we're based on the real people, the thing about our show is they really let us do our vision of these women. I know that I look nothing like the real Alex, whereas Taylor, you can see the resemblance between her and the real Piper. But also with Taylor, Jenji was like, ‘We're doing your version of Piper. Don't worry about trying to be Piper Kerman.” Is Wolters what you had expected her to look like? If you’re having Orange Is The New Black withdrawals, have no fear! The hit series is back June 6th on Netflix.
