If the average Whovian had to think of a caption for the picture above, it would probably involve something with the TARDIS being the latest vehicle of transport to be used at Heathrow Airport. Alas, no such luck just yet, but that doesn’t mean there will be no Time Lord activity in the coming months.

To kick off a new partnership between the BBC and the UK’s only hub airport, travellers will be treated to a whole range of exciting Doctor Who activities, such as TARDIS photo booths, memorabilia from the series, an invasion of the Cybermen and some actual props used in the series.

In the coming weeks there will be various invasions by the many iconic villains, and on July 16 there was a book signing with Jenny Colgan, who recently published her newest Doctor Who book titled Doctor Who: Dark Horizons. The London Philharmonic Orchestra also treated passengers in Terminal 5 to music from the hit BBC series.

“In its 50th Anniversary year we want to include fans around the world in our Doctor Who celebrations and this partnership with Heathrow is a fantastic way of capturing the attention of people from across the globe,” Amanda Hill, Chief Brands Officer for BBC Worldwide said via a press release.

Susan Goldsmith, Operations Director at Heathrow Terminal 5, added: “I am delighted that Heathrow has been chosen to host this much loved British iconic series. With visitors from over 180 destinations worldwide, as the U.K.’s only hub airport, Heathrow offers a fantastic opportunity to bring the Doctor Who experience to an international audience this summer.”

Finally, the story wouldn’t be complete without a comment from showrunner Steven Moffat himself: “We are delighted to announce another extension to Heathrow’s world-beating facilities – all of space and time in a stylish blue box, complete with phone. Heathrow with time travel – nobody need ever be late again.”

Either way, we can expect a lot more of these events in the months leading up to November 23, as this is only the first of a number of international events planned to celebrate the show’s Golden anniversary.

The 50th anniversary celebrations will come to a peak in November with the release of a drama based on the early days of Doctor Who, a 3-D film and a Celebration Weekend in London. Stay tuned for more to come!
