Will Friedle Not Returning For The Boy Meets World Spin-off

I’m afraid we’ve got some bad news for you 90’s kids. Will Friedle, who starred in Boy Meets World as Cory’s eccentric older brother Eric, will not be returning to the small-screen to reprise his role on the spin-off Girl Meets world.  Originally, rumors circulated of the actor’s return. TVLine journalist Michael Ausiello said "Will Friedle is returning… maybe," he continued to tease, "The Biggest Show in Disney Channel history is casting a cousin for new leading tween Riley, and the smart money is on Cory’s big brother

being the parent." Unfortunately, it would seem as though Ausiello was mistaken. Friedle recently told Mashable he “will only be involved in the show as a fan…I know rumours got around that I would be joining, but I have no plans to be on right now. Who knows what will happen — if there is a reunion show, I would go and be with everyone, but Ben [Savage] and Danielle [Fishel] will be great introducing it to a new audience." We respect the actor’s rights to leave his character as he sees fit, but we’re really going to miss the antics of Eric Matthews/Playswith Squirrels. I mean, who can forget the Feeny call? This raises another question: What about Eric’s unlikely counterpart, Mr. Feeny? We are delighted to say that William Daniels, who portrayed the Yoda of all things adolescent, is set to return as Mr. Feeny. It is not clear what his role will be in the spin-off, but a photograph of him in a classroom suggests he’ll be back right where we hoped he’d be, reports TVLine. Though Eric’s presence will be missed, we can’t hide our excitement about Girl Meets World. Just as Friedle said, Savage and Fishel won’t disappoint. Girl Meets World is set to premiere on the Disney Channel in 2014. Click below to watch a video compilation of Eric’s unmistakable Feeny call:
