On Friday, John Green revealed via Tumblr that Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man, John Carter) has been officially cast as author Peter Van Houten in the film adaptation of the bestselling The Fault in Our Stars. Willem Dafoe is infamously known for his roles as villains in blockbuster films, making this choice not such a big surprise to many fans.
Director Josh Boone also took to Twitter himself to share the news:

The Fault in Our Stars centers around a teenage cancer patient Hazel Grace Lancaster who falls in love with a particular Augustus Waters at the Cancer Kids Support group. Peter Van Houten plays a significant role in the story as his novel “An Imperial Infliction” (which Hazel is a huge fan of) plays a role in the plot of the novel.
The movie, starring Shailene Woodley as Hazel and Ansel Elgort as Augustus, does not have an official release date but is rumored to be released somewhere around 2014 or early 2015.
