A hunt for a gunman is underway in Hollywood after a 30-year-old woman, Carrie Jean Melvin, was shot in the back of the head and killed on Saturday while walking near to Sunset Boulevard.
She and her boyfriend had left their apartment nearby to go and get some food when the tragedy happened.
The assailant, described as being about 6 feet tall, black and wearing a dark hooded jacket, then made his getaway in a black sedan and has yet to be found by detectives working on the case to whom the motive behind the killing remains a mystery.
Speaking about the investigation and any possible motives, Detective John Skaggs of the LAPD told reporters:
“We just don’t know. On one hand, she didn’t have any known enemies. On the other hand, it looks like it was directed towards her…we’re looking at all angles.”
He also commented that the shooting was
“alarming because of the nature of the violence.”
Carrie’s father, Bernie Melvin, has spoken fondly of his daughter saying:
“It’s an extreme loss to us. She had a lot to give, and her life was cut short. Everyone you talked to just loved her. She was a joy to be around.”
Detectives are continuing to canvas the area near where the murder took place and surveillance cameras are being checked to see if there is any recorded footage that may help with the investigation.
