Members of the New York Cosmos pro soccer team were left with mouths full of air instead of food when a young busboy demolished their forward Peri Marošević in an eating competition at a Buffalo Wild Wings location. The skinny lad downed a whopping 58 wings in a three minute time period compared to Marošević’s measly 18.
Little did Marošević and the rest of the team know that “busboy Kevin” was none other than world champion competitive eater, Takeru Kobayashi! Cosmos team managers enlisted Kobayashi and the staff of the restaurant to prank the team on April Fools’ Day. The store manager offered to pay the entire team’s bill if their biggest eater could take down one of their employees as part of an eating contest.
The soccer star obviously didn’t see “Kevin” as a threat, as the 36-year-old Japanese wonder stands only 5’ 8”, clocks in at a slender 128 pounds, and still looks like a teenager! Kobayashi added to the prank’s surprise value by pretending to struggle at the beginning, then switching into full throttle consumption mode about a minute into the competition.
As impressive as Kobayashi’s 58 wings sounds, the masticating marvel was actually taking it easy for the fun prank. Kobayashi currently holds the world wing-eating record, devouring 337 of them in 30 minutes at the 2012 “Wing Bowl.”
