Whew 2013 was a great year for music! From rising stars to blurring lines to twerk teams to the return of a fan favorite, and so much more, 2013 had so many top-of-the-chart worthy songs to choose from. It was hard to only choose 10 top songs from 2013; there were so many great songs that made me dance, cry, and sing at the top of my lungs. With that said, away we go with my Top 10 Songs of 2013.

10. Drunk in Love – Beyonce featuring Jay Z

Queen Bey shocked the world when she released her visual album on iTunes without any marketing and promotion in December 2013. “Drunk in Love” was released along with “XO” as dual lead singles from her fifth studio album titled Beyoncé. “Drunk in Love” is a hard hitting love song to her husband, Jay Z. The intoxicating beat along with Beyoncé’s intense vocals can be seen as a mature version of their first playful collaboration “Crazy in Love”.

9. Started from the Bottom – Drake

Although this song is close to the bottom of my top 10 list, it wasn’t at the bottom of any charts throughout 2013. “Started from the Bottom” off Drake’s third studio album hit the airways in February and kept going strong throughout the year. The song was a chart topping hit and brought the crowds to the dance floor in clubs around the world.

8. Still Into You – Paramore

Punk-pop Paramore jumped back on the scene with this catchy and cute love song. “Still Into You” makes you want to fall in love and sing this song. Okay, maybe that might just be me, but this really is a great pop song. It makes me want to sing it at the top of my lungs, dance around like a teenager, and remember the butterflies.

7. Get Lucky – Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams

Pharrell Williams had a busy 2013! Collaborating with French duo Daft Punk to create this disco inspired dance track, “Get Lucky” combines Williams’ smooth vocals with music legend Nile Rodgers’ funky guitar riffs to bring this hit to life. Whether Daft Punk is your cup or tea or not…I bet that you can’t help but to get out of your seat and dance (or at least nod your head) when you hear this song.

6. Same Love – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert

Seattle indie rap heroes Macklemore & Ryan Lewis had a great few years with hit singles from their fourth studio album The Heist. Although technically, “Same Love” was released in late 2012, it began to gain airplay and hit the charts in 2013. This beautiful song about the love and acceptance of gay marriage propelled Macklemore and Ryan Lewis into the spotlight.

5. Wake Me Up – Avicii

A dance record with a folk and soulful sound is not what you would expect to hear on commercial radio but that’s exactly what Swedish EDM producer Avicii gave us in 2013. “Wake Me Up” combines Aloe Blacc’s raspy folk vocals with an infectious array of EDM and dance tracks that makes you want to turn all the way up. “Wake Me Up” has become one of the fastest selling tracks of 2013.

4. Suit & Tie – Justin Timberlake featuring Jay Z

Six years after his last album, Justin Timberlake releases “Suit & Tie” off of his third album The 20/20 Experience. This was a big departure from what we heard on FutureSex/LoveSounds this was a smooth R&B record where Justin put his own pop stamp on it. “Suit & Tie” has a groove to it that makes you want to find a partner and dance to it, or roll your car windows down while listening to it. Adding Jay Z to the song just made the song a bigger chart topping success.

3. Blurred Lines – Robin Thicke featuring T.I. and Pharrell Williams

From the first few seconds of the “Blurred Lines”, you can tell that this song was going to be a monster smash. The Marvin Gaye inspired “Blurred Lines” makes people of all ages want to run to the dance floor. The record breaking song spent 16 weeks in the number 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and we all sang and danced along with the R&B crooner’s hit.

2. We Can’t Stop – Miley Cyrus

It seemed that Miley Cyrus turned the world of pop culture on its head when she released “We Can’t Stop” in June 2013. The former Disney princess seemed to erase all references to her former Hannah Montana image while working on her fourth album “Bangerz”. Twerk teams and big teddy bears aside, “We Can’t Stop” was a hit and brought Miley’s new sound/look to attention, and we’ll keep listening and watching to see what’s next. This may not be everyone’s favorite song but when you hear it you can’t help but sing along.

1.  Royals – Lorde

The New Zealand native burst onto the scene with her catchy-raspy pop hit “Royals” in March 2013. This worldwide hit song about the lush and luxury lives of rich pop stars has a hit a mark with everyone from critics and fans, to artists themselves. Recently rapper Rick Ross, decided to put his talents on a Royals (Remix). Although Lorde sings that she’ll “never be Royals…”, it looks like this teen sensation has hit gold and platinum status with this certified hit.
