Zach Whedon Reveals More Details About Serenity: Leaves On The Wind

The Whedon brothers are creative wordsmiths and produce fantastic work. We will get to experience for of this in 2014, as a Whedon brother is linked to a new comic book series. Writer Zack Whedon is penning the upcoming miniseries titled, Serenity: Leaves on the Wind, which will be published by Dark Horse Comics. According to Nerdist, “Zack will write the six-issue miniseries for the publisher with the first issue landing in January.” The Firefly follow-up is set nine months following the events of the Serenity film, so there will be a lot of familiarity but still a lot of changes. "The discovery that Mal and his crew shared with the 'verse—that the inhabitants of the planet Miranda were killed or driven mad by an Alliance experiment—has opened some eyes and created some new allies, but it hasn't deterred any of their pursuers. If anything, it has made them more relentless,” Whedon stated when speaking with Comic Book Resources. He added: “Serenity is hiding out in lesser-known corners of the 'verse, trying to keep a low profile. As you will see early on, that's easier said than done. Mal and his crew will be forced to face their enemies head on—some familiar, some new." While River has found more peace after the revelations about the disaster on Miranda, Zoe is grieving for the loss of Wash and is trying to cope with her pregnancy. “The ship is ‘less bustling’ since events ‘took a dark turn’ during Serenity,” Whedon stated. Penciler Georges Jeanty, who has worked on Dark Horse’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, has been collaborating with Whedon on the title. Whedon is also looking forward to sharing the story within the pages. “The challenge is to make something good, something that feels like it is building on what is already there rather than just mimicking it. [The series will] plough forward into the future of these characters and tell new stories, which has been a lot of fun... I know fans have been starving for story, so I don't hold back in that regard," Whedon told Digital Spy. The first issue, Serenity: Leaves on the Wind #1 will be released on January 29, 2014.
