Broadway’s about to get courted by a fun new show! It has just been announced that Zachary Levi, star of TV’s Chuck, will be making his Broadway debut in the new musical First Date, along with Broadway veteran and Smash breakout star, Kyrsta Rodriguez! With a score by up-and-coming songwriters Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner, and direction by Seattle native Bill Berry, the show is centered on tightly-wound Aaron (Levi) and serial-dater Casey (Rodriguez) going on a first date at a busy New York restaurant.
It sounds boring at first. The twist that keeps things interesting is when the staff and other patrons start to take life and become Aaron and Casey’s inner critics, who sing and dance them through ice breakers, and help them through the awkwardness that is a first date.
The show opened last year in Seattle to unanimous praise, and is now making its way to the Great White Way. Previews will begin on July 9th, and official performances on August 5th! Tickets are on sale now, so hurry up and buy two! This should be a good show to bring a date!
