Ok, before we all get too excited, this is a reboot based of Buffy, but will most likely not be more of the show we know. Monica Owusu-Breen (Alias, Lost, Agents of SHIELD) has been hired to create a Buffy reboot, better phrased as a spin off. What makes this news still make us fangirl a little? Joss Whedon, who created Buffy, is going to be apart of this project so the chances of our show getting ruined go way down.
Whedon will work as executive producer and help Breen with the script which appears to be a spin off, reboot making Buffy a young black girl. They are calling it an inclusive Buffy, but we have some thoughts. Why recast Buffy instead of creating a new slayer story? Perhaps this new slayer could take over years after ‘Chosen’ creating a new mythology instead of redoing the original, merely to include more diversity.
According to Fox and 20th Century, Buffy is ready to be remade, calling it ‘ripe’. The last few years have been filled with reboots with more to come, like CBS’ Magnum P.I. but we don’t want all the same shows done over again and again, no matter what the reason. Write new material or expand on what we know instead of doing it over differently. We love Buffy, but it’s never been a show that’s been criticized for not being diverse. Buffy handled the issues of its time and it’s been a rock for many who grew up watching it. Our biggest issue, Buffy ended in 2003, has it really been long enough to justify a reboot of the series? What do you guys think? Should we support a new made over Buffy?
“Hey here’s your favorite thing but you start COMPLETELY OVER and it’s all new characters and basically a completely different show” – why not keep it in the same universe, with a new slayer rather than a new Buffy? I’d love a show where we can get cameos from the Scoobies

A black Buffy isn’t a cool concept it’s insulting and lazy on so many levels. This is such a bad idea.
