5 suggestions of what you can do to help you get through this cold weather and not become victims of the boredom monsters.

2017 has been in full swing and you might be doing really well with your New Year’s Resolutions. But mother nature might have casually reminded you that it’s winter, and now boredom has hit, and you’re kind of stuck indoors while the weather outside is frightful.

Don’t worry though, we’ve got five suggestions of what you can do to help you get through this cold weather and not become victims of the boredom monsters.

How To Defeat Boredom:

1. Clean up your place

Is that Christmas tree still up? Holiday decorations still everywhere? If your answer is yes, now that you’re stuck at home, this is the perfect time to clean up.

Even if your holiday spirit is no longer decorating the walls, cleaning up your place for the new year doesn’t hurt either. Reorganize your shelves, do that laundry that is possibly developing sentience in the corner, find that mythical beast that is your bedroom floor. Put on some good music and jam out while you do it if you want. Besides, a cleaner environment might help you get good vibes into this new year or just help you discover money randomly throughout your home.

2. Catch up with people

When things get busy, especially with the stress that comes with the holiday season, you might have lost touch with some people you care about. If you’re stuck at home all day, send a message to those people you haven’t spoken to in a bit. You never know, they might be stuck at home, too, and you could suddenly find yourself chatting the day away with friends or family.

3. Read a book

As entertaining as arguments via social media can be, there’s nothing as satisfying as reading a good book. It could be a book you’ve been meaning to read or a book you just love. No matter the choice, reading is always a good option. It requires minimal effort to get lost in a world outside of your living room.

Reading a book is always great if you’ve found the perfect position on your couch while bundled up in a mountain of blankets. Also, reading is a nice solution when you’ve suddenly found yourself being the pillow to one of your pets who refuses to let you move.

4. Exercise from home

You don’t have to give up on that resolution to exercise more just because you can’t actively drag yourself to the gym. If you’re really wanting to get into shape, the weather shouldn’t really stop you from working out.

The internet has a few different suggested workouts if you look in the right places. YouTube is also a good source to have someone telling you how to do the exercises so you don’t feel like you’re just awkwardly stretching alone. Even your phone might also have some free workout apps that you can use.

5. Binge-watch shows

Netflix

Things get busy; it happens to the best of us. While all your friends may have been freaking out about the newest show, you might have missed the hype train about the new series everyone is talking about. It’s early in the new year, which means a lot of your favorites are on their mid-season hiatus. Now would be the perfect time to see which shows everyone has been talking about and see if they’re worth the hype.

Have you been behind in some of your favorite shows — like two seasons behind where everyone else currently is? If you’re lucky, Netflix might be streaming some of the episodes you’ve missed, and now you can catch up.

But even more than that, Netflix has no commercials for you, so you can easily binge an entire new (to you) series in an inordinate amount of time that possibly leaves an imprint of your body on your couch. If you’re bold, you can also search randomly and find something completely unheard of and watch a new movie (fair warning: watch with caution from the depths of Netflix).
