Fans of Gravity Falls have by now undoubtedly marked their calendars for February 15, when the show will air its hour-long special “Weirdmageddon Part 3: Take Back The Falls”. At this point, fans are also well aware that this will be the final episode for the series, which will have run 40 episodes over two seasons. So with Gravity Falls approaching its end, what’s next for creator Alex Hirsch?
According to Variety, Hirsch will be “cooking up some brand-new weirdness,” in a new animated series on Fox. Hirsch has “set a deal for a script and presentation pilot,” Varitey reported earlier today. This afternoon, Hirsch tweeted “The rumors are true! I’m cooking up some new strange projects for some new strange places. 2016 is gonna be a crazy year buddies.”

At this point, not much is known about this new show or what weirdness it will entail. Fox, home of both animated classics like The Simpsons and new favorites such as Bob’s Burgers, could give Hirsch the opportunity to play up more adult themes. Of course, even Gravity Falls, which airs on Disney XD, is known to stray away from purely jovial themes. With Fox as a platform, Hirsch could certainly go even further into adult content.
Hirsch also lends his voice to several characters in Gravity Falls, including Grunkle Stan, Soos, and Bill Cipher–so there’s a pretty good chance we’ll be hearing more of his voice in this new project. Hirsch has also lent his vocal talents to a variety of other animated shows, such as Fish Hooks, Rick and Morty, and Phineas and Ferb.
With no premier date set for the new show (or any information about it at all, really), all we can do for now is wait to see what February 15 will bring for Dipper, Mable, Grunkle Stan, Soos, Wendy, and the rest of the endearingly weird residents of Gravity Falls.
