The high temperatures might be tempting for a person to go swimming in the closest lake or river, but Oklahoma health officials are reminding people to be cautious.

According to Oklahoma Department of Health officials, a person was hospitalized last week after swimming in Lake Murray. This week, the individual died after contracting an infection from their swim.

The swimmer died from primary amoebic meningoencephalitis, which ais n infection of the brain by an amoeba. Amoeba such as the

Naegleria fowleri

 can be found in warm bodies of freshwater like Lake Murray.

For those who still wish to beat the heat by taking a swim

, experts advise that one should try to keep water out of their nose as a precaution.
