It seems Peter Capaldi is not the only Whovian having his dreams fulfilled by starring in Doctor Who this year. BBC have now announced that comedian, actor and huge fan of the show Ben Miller will play a villain in an upcoming episode.
Miller, who is widely known as half of hilarious comedy duo Armstrong and Miller, has also featured heavily in dramas, including sci-fi series Primeval and recently played the central role in the successful BBC drama, Death In Paradise. He also starred alongside Mr Bean actor Rowan Atkinson in the 2003 hit spy parody film, Johnny English.
Miller’s villainous character will feature in one of two episodes penned by Mark Gatiss, and, speaking about his Who role, Miller said, “As a committed Whovian I cannot believe my luck in joining the Twelfth Doctor for one of his inaugural adventures. My only worry is that they’ll make me leave the set when I’m not filming.”
Showrunner Steven Moffat said, “Mark Gatiss has written us such a storming villain for his new episode, and with Capaldi in the TARDIS, we knew we needed somebody special to send everybody behind the sofa. And quite frankly, it’s about time Ben Miller was in Doctor Who!”
Ben Miller joins an ever-growing list of stars confirmed for Season 8 of the legendary series, with Tom Riley, Keeley Hawes and Samuel Anderson already set to join Peter Capaldi in his first season as the Doctor.
