BlackBerry has given Canadians another reason to think Toronto is the centre of the universe. The company announced that its Q10 handset will go on sale first Wednesday, May 1st  to those that live in the Greater Toronto Area with expansion to the rest of Canada later this week.

According a Canadian Press story, the company’s chief operating officer, Kristian Tear, said the reason why is that the “demand in Toronto is very, very strong, and we want to make sure we have enough supply.”

The Q10 is the physical keyboard version of the BlackBerry’s touchscreen Z10 that was released earlier this year. The popularity of the physical keyboard amongst the finance folks of Toronto’s Bay Street (Canada’s version of the US’s Wall Street) is probably one of the reasons why BlackBerry wanted to release the Q10 first in Toronto before the rest of the country.

Canada is the second country to get the Q10, with the UK getting the latest smartphone handset this past weekend.  BlackBerry expects to release the Q10 in the US next month but no date has been determined.
