The Voice coach/country singer has dethroned Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who received the honor last year.

Initially hesitant to accept the title, Shelton was ultimately convinced by girlfriend Gwen Stefani. “She goes, ‘’Listen to me, you’re going to regret this for the rest of your life if you don’t take this gift and just live in the moment.’”

He also joked about People’s choice, telling the magazine, “Y’all must be running out of people.”

Twitter, however, disagrees. They can think of plenty of people.

Reactions To This Year’s “Sexiest Man Alive”

When People released the cover revealing this year’s alleged number one sex symbol, the internet exploded, with many harkening back to racist and homophobic tweets Shelton posted in 2011, while others just expressed general confusion:

And while Shelton may have quipped that People’s pool must have been pretty small, the actual people have managed to come up with lots of suggestions:

People Magazine Missed An Opportunity

We could argue that this annual accolade is trivial, silly, outdated, etc.—because let’s face it, it definitely is. Still, today, in 2017, in this specific moment, People could have done so much better. Maybe that’s a ridiculous responsibility to thrust upon a publication that boasts inside looks at celebrity marriages and exclusive fashion tips. But it would have been so easy—so simple yet so important—for them to have chosen, oh, I don’t know, a man of color, maybe? Or at least one without a history of racist Twitter rants? Because plenty of those exist.

In the scheme of things, no, it doesn’t matter who gets chosen as “Sexiest Man Alive”—the winners always treat is as a joke anyway, an excuse for self-deprecating humor and/or sarcastic bragging rights—but this year’s cover is just so off the mark.

I mean, really, what more does Idris Elba have to do to get you people to notice him?
