It has confirmed that Australian Oscar winner, Cate Blanchett, is joining forces with US cable network, HBO as executive producer and star in a TV movie, Cancer Vixen: A True Story.
Released in 2009, this graphic novel by New York cartoonist, Marisa Acocella Marchetto, follows her 11-month battle with breast cancer, diagnosed three weeks before her wedding. From her first mammogram through to her radiation treatments, Marchetto is determined to face the disease head-on with style, flair and a Manhattanite humour, becoming a cancer ‘vixen’ rather than ‘victim.’
The TV movie is currently in development with HBO Films. Maven Pictures’ Trudie Styler and Celine Rattray (producers of Black Nativity and Girl Most Likely) are reported to executive produce and are currently meeting with writers to adapt the novel.
