Costco Greeter with Cancer gets treated to surprise vacation by loyal customers.

In what is a heart-warming and soul-crushingly sweet story to jump-start your faith in humanity again (Lord knows we probably all need it), the story contained in the title is exactly what happened.

Bye.

Okay, seriously: a Costo greeter who worked at the location for 20 years got the surprise of his lifetime and the tables flipped on him (due to his usually cheering people up with a greeting) when loyal customers and generally good human beings (how weird is it that I have to specific that they’re good instead of just humans, which should carry the implicit meaning of good? Whoa, I think I blew my own mind) raised money to send him and his wife on a beach-side vacation.

The greeter, Arlie Smith, is battling kidney cancer and when the customers found out, they began to fundraise for the vacation. The group, calling themselves “Arlie’s Angels” (I laughed, it’s clever), organized the entire thing and presented it to Arlie, who was in tears as he revealed all he wanted was to raise money for cancer research, specifically for a Children’s Hospital, and said, “My goal is to be number one and not for me. It’s just so I know that I made a difference in this world. That I’ve put a mark in a positive way to make this world a better place.”

I wish more humans were more human like you, human Arlie. Well-wishes and good vibes sent your way.

Send him some love, Poppies!
