In the upcoming May issue Watson told GQ about the character Nicki and what it was like to playing a character she is not necessarily comfortable with:

“When I read the script and I realised that essentially it was a meditation on fame and what it’s become to our society, I had to do it. The character is everything that I felt strongly against – she’s superficial, materialistic, vain, amoral.  She’s all of these things and I realised that I hated her.  How do you play someone you hate?  But I found it really interesting and it gave me a whole new insight into what my job, or my role as an actress, could be.”

In The Bling Ring, Nicki is a party girl from the Valley who pole dances and is known for stealing from the homes of the rich and famous; definitely a far stride from Hermione Granger.

In the interview Watson also talked about how she would rather play a ‘risqué’ character than be in a period piece. “The one thing I didn’t want to do was get myself into a corset because I was worried I’d never get out again.”

If you are interested in the full interview with Watson be sure to pick up a copy of GQ on April 4th when it is released.
