Marking the biggest Memorial Day debut ever, Fast 6 took in a whopping $120 million in weekend box office sales out of the $316 million in domestic ticket sales.
Now at No. 1 domestically, it overshadows its competitors two-fold with The Hangover III only bringing in a paltry $51.2 million—nowhere near where backers Warner Bros. had hoped for. 20th Century Fox’s Epic drew even less, at $42.6 million.
Starring Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Walker and Michelle Rodriguez, the Fast franchise has seen major growth over the years, particularly in stunts. According to a Universal spokeswoman, the final budget was $160 million for the most recent entry.
