Tennis player Andy Murray used some less than kind words during his match at Wimbledon yesterday. However, BBC has revealed that only ten legitimate complaints were lodged as a result of the tennis player’s explicit language.
Murray was heard swearing quietly to himself in his quarter final after having lost two sets to Fernando Verdasco. Murray was heard shouting: “You f**king w**ker, what are you doing?” Commentator Andrew Castle apologized to viewers after Murray’s display.
While Daily Mail reported that Murray’s language had many spectators “reacting with anger,” The Guardian reported that BBC only received complaints from ten people.
The diary reporter for The Guardian went on to write “Perhaps the Mail might try to find a new racket the next time it tries to stir up controversy,” reports Digital Spy.
Ten people? That’s much less than the amount of people who complained about Paula Deen’s now infamous racial slurs. I guess there is a fine line between swearing at people, and swearing out of general frustration.
Murray’s five-set comeback attracted over 10 million viewers yesterday afternoon.
In Friday’s semi-final, Andy Murray will play 24th seed Jerzy Janowicz.
