Criminal Minds returns to our screens on September 25th and details are starting to emerge of what fans can expect from the forthcoming ninth season.

If reports from TVLine are to be believed, then fans of the show can expect to learn more about the histories of their favourite characters including Aaron Hotchner, JJ and my personal favourite Penelope Garcia (played by the amazing Kristen Vangsness).

Executive producer of the CBS hit Erica Messer told TVLine that viewers will get to see the first meeting between JJ (AJ Cook) and Hotch (Thomas Gibson) back in 2004, and we will learn about the man in JJ’s life at the time.  This sounds intriguing especially considering that new Unit Chief Matt Cruz (Esai Morales), who is first seen in episode three, has history with JJ and their peculiar relationship.  Messer said that this will be dealt with more in the 200th episode where we learn about JJ during her Season six absence from the BAU.

Meanwhile the network have also launched the synopsis for episode two which will air on October 3.  According to hwhills.com, the episode will be called “The Inspired” and will focus on the BAU’s hunt for yet another ritualistic serial killer. “As the BAU zeroes in on the suspect of the ritualistic killings they’ve been investigating in Arizona, a bizarre connection within the UnSub’s family could lead them to finally nab the suspect. Also, Emmy Award-winning actress, Camryn Manheim, will guest star as character Carla Hines and Fred Koehler as her son, Wallace Hines.”

Season 9 of Criminal Minds will return to CBS on Wednesday 25th October at 9/8C.
