Grey’s Anatomy has picked up a potentially familiar face for its upcoming tenth season. Actor James Remar, best known for his eight-year stint on HBO’s Dexter, has been given a recurring role on the ABC hospital drama.
As of right now the exact nature of the actor’s role is being kept tightly under wraps by Grey’s showrunner Shonda Rhimes. An insider has confirmed that Remar will make his debut early in the season. It begins September 26th.
James Remar has, for the past eight years, starred as the adoptive father of Dexter’s eponymous serial killer.

On the show, Harry Morgan (Remar) has been dead for quite some time, so his function has been as Dexter’s (Michael C. Hall) conscience (and I use that term very loosely!). He has appeared as a figure in some of Dexter’s flashbacks.
Dexter is in the final stretch of its final season; the series finale will air the same week Grey’s Anatomy picks up again.

Grey’s Anatomy recently made headlines when one of its stars, Sandra Oh, announced her imminent departure from the show. Oh, who has played the prickly yet passionate Dr. Cristina Yang for the show’s previous nine seasons, will be leaving the show after it’s tenth.
