Microsoft announced today that cross-platform multi-player gaming will be possible on Windows 10, its next operating system.

How many times have you wanted to play a video game with a friend only to be stopped by the fact that you’re running it on a console and your friend is on a PC? It’s the same game; you should be able to party up and play, right? Well, not exactly. But today (Jan. 21), Microsoft announced that with Windows 10, the future of gaming is about to change. Later this year, Fable Legends, a fantasy RPG game, will be released on XboxOne and PC. And with Windows 10, multi-player gaming will cross platforms. As of right now, Fable Legends is the only game announced to have this capability but Microsoft teases there will be more announcements in the coming months! Microsoft will be giving developers access to the Xbox Live API so that more studios can build on the possibilities of cross-platform, multi-player gaming.

Also announced is the ability to stream games from XboxOne to any Windows 10 device and better integration with the Xbox App, allowing for easier access to friends lists, achievements, messaging, and chat. The future of gaming is bright with this announcement and it will be exciting to see what other games will enable this kind of freedom and interaction.
