For a recent photo shoot on Germany’s Next Top Model, a show starring Klum, contestants were asked to dress up and pose in Native American garb. Several of the girls were also tasked with wearing “redface” type makeup.

It’s perplexing as to why it didn’t occur to anyone at the program how offensive this could turn out to be. What’s more, the pictures from the shoot are still up on Heidi’s Facebook page!  The caption on the page reads: “Here are my beautiful GNTM girls!”

Christoph Korfer, a spokesperson for the show, released a statement regarding the incident: “By no means was our intention to insult Native Americans or in any way demean their heritage. We sincerely apologize.”

Inspired by the American version created by Tyra Banks, Germany’s Next Top Model is currently in its ninth season with Heidi Klum, Thomas Hayo, and Wolfgang Joop as the judges. Despite its success to this point, a controversial event such as this tends not to bode well for a show’s future.

What do you think of the photos? Offensive or in good taste? Let us know in the comments!
