Ukrainian model Valeria Lukyanova quickly became an Internet sensation when she began showcasing her body’s similarity to a Barbie doll’s. Although it hasn’t been confirmed, it’s believed that her dimensions are a result of plastic surgery, Photoshop, and excessive dieting.

She’s also made some interesting claims in the past—including that she’s spoken to aliens and can travel through time.

Her latest is shocking, to say the least, and has some wondering whether or not she has any sense of self-preservation. Lukyanova recently committed herself to “Breatharianism,” a New Age belief that a human being can survive without food or water, instead depending only on “cosmic micro-food”.

“In recent weeks I have not been hungry at all. I’m hoping it’s the final stage before I can subsist on air and light alone,” she said.

She isn’t the only woman who’s taken drastic measures to look like the popular children’s toy. Thirty-eight-year-old Blondie Bennett recently made headlines for her obsession with emulating Barbie. She’s even spent thousands of dollars on implants and pays for regular hypnotherapy sessions in an attempt to be “more easily confused and vacant”.

Let’s hope these extremely unhealthy—and just plain abnormal—behaviors don’t ever become a trend.
