Life was much different when Superman first graced the pages of Action Comics #1. In 1939, you could buy a house for around $4500 and a car for $500. In the 75 years that this American icon has graced comic books, television and film, so much has changed. America has been through five wars, thirteen presidents and has seen the development of the computer age. How can one truly give enough appreciation to all that Superman is and has been to our culture? Man of Steel director Zach Snyder and animation great Bruce Timm teamed up to do just that.
In the two-minute animation short that was recently released, fans are taken on a journey through almost all of Superman’s manifestations. From Action Comics to Man of Steel, each major point of his cultural history is highlighted. Not only are the major stepping-stones showcased such as his death at the hands of Doomsday, but little nostalgic homages are included as well. In watching the amazing short, you will notice The Wonder Twins, Krypto the Superdog and even a vintage Atari tribute. Some fans are saddened that there were some incarnations excluded from the tribute: mainly Lois and Clark and Brandon Routh.

While Superman has had more versions than could fit in a two minute animated segment, Snyder and Timm did what seemed impossible. They honored a cornerstone of modern American culture truthfully and astonishingly.
