The multi-talented and handsome actor, James Franco, is using the crowdfunding site, Indiegogo, to finance three films based on his novel, Palo Alto.

Franco joins the small list of actors that have asked fans to help fund his projects. He will be following the footsteps of Zach Braff, Zosia Mamet and Rob Thomas.

Franco is attempting to raise $500,000 to film three feature films based on his novel that came out in 2010. He is using Indiegogo, a familiar crowdfunding site, similar to Kickstarter. Franco stated that he wants to raise the money on his own so he can maintain “artistic integrity.”

The reason Franco chose Indiegogo are the “flexible funding” features. This will allow him to keep however much he raises, even if it does not reach his goal.

The plan is to make three different films, MemoriaKilling Animals and Yosemite. Franco is hoping to start his filming in August.

In his campaign, there will be rewards for those who donate. For example, fans who donate $450 will get a personalized voicemail greeting from James Franco.

This is not the first time Franco has turned to Indiegogo for funding. Last March, he raised money to fund a ‘multimedia performance piece.’ “This is the best way to make movies,” Franco said. “Because in this way, the movies we wanna make get made in the ways that we wanna make them.”
