With the 2015 Golden Globes upon us, we'd like to shine a light on what we believe is one of the best performances of the year: Jennifer Aniston in Cake.

The 2015 Golden Globes are here! Hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, this awards ceremony will honor the best of the best in movies and television. While we must wait until Sunday to discover the winners, let’s take a look at one of the thespians nominated for Best Actress in a Drama.

Jennifer Aniston stares in the romantic drama, Cake. This poignant movie is about dealing with love, loss and pain as Aniston’s character (Claire Simmons) struggles through a life of chronic agony while trying to figure out if she really wants to get better. Her world takes a dramatic turn when a member of her pain-management support group abruptly commits suicide. The journey of uncovering answers leads Claire towards a relationship with the widow all while seeing hallucinations of her deceased friend.

Claire is a brusque, raw character looking to escape . She’s in the middle of a physical battlefield where life and living is war. Constant pain pushes her to find relief from traditional and alternative medicines, but her own emotional turmoil causes setbacks in her self-discovery.

This role is a stripped down, raw character. A woman of contradictions – both strong, but weak; determined yet struggling; and curious, but defeated. Aniston clings to all facets of Claire with ferocity and honesty. Of what I’ve seen this performance is breathtakingly brutal. Best of luck to the actress!
