Jimmy Kimmel ended up with a baseball between the eyes as the result of a stunt with Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw.
Kimmel put himself in the line of fire by balancing an apple on his head and hoping Kershaw’s aim would be true enough to knock it off. It turns out Kershaw is no William Tell, as the celebrated pitcher missed twice and hit Kimmel in the shoulder once. One pitch finally did bring the apple off Kimmel’s head, but only because the host moved his head after the ball smacked him directly in the eyes, knocking off his safety glasses.
Of course this was all safe and controlled late night TV fun, so no real risk was involved. The ball used was much lighter and softer than a regulation ball, which likely also caused Kershaw’s wild pitches.
Even so, you have to hand it to Kimmel for taking any kind of ball in the face for the sake of comedy, especially one thrown by a guy who can pitch at 95 miles an hour.
