Variety has revealed that Attack the Block director Joe Cornish will not be helming the starship Enterprise for Star Trek 3.
When J.J. Abrams traded warp cores for light sabers, the question of who would direct the third film in the sci-fi reboot went unanswered. In a recent interview Abrams, currently busy with Star Wars: Episode VII, noted Cornish’s involvement in Star Trek 3. According to Variety the director is no longer involved in the Paramount production.
Cornish is currently set to direct adaptions of the books Snow Crash and Rust.
Screenwriters Alex Kurtzman, Damon Lindelof, and Roberto Orci previously worked on the last two films together. Orci will be the only one of the trio returning for the third film. Newcomers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will join Orci to write the next adventure for Captain Kirk and his crew.

If a new captain is found soon, production could possibly start in 2014.
