Continuing along with Hollywood’s recent obsession with remaking/rebooting/rehashing the classics, Gilligan’s Island is set to become a big-budget feature film. Though it’s not entirely a new idea, Warner Bros. first announced their intentions to turn the series into a film back in 2010.

Tony-nominated star and current voice of Olaf the snowman in Disney’s Frozen, Josh Gad, has been named to star in and write the script alongside 1600 Penn‘s Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. Brothers Lloyd and Ross Schwartz (sons of the original series’ producer Sherwood Schwartz) will follow in their father’s footsteps and are slated to serve as executive producers, along with Tracey Silvers (Invisible Kids) and Cathy Silvers (Happy Days).

The series, which began in 1964 and was filmed in black and white, chronicled the lives of 7 castaways who end up stranded on a tropical island after their three hour tour on the S.S. Minnow takes a severe turn for the worst.

On April 17, 1976 after three years and 98 episodes, Gilligan’s Island ended its tv run with Gilligan, the Skipper, Thurston and Lovey Howell, the Professor, Ginger and Mary-Ann still stranded on the island. Perhaps after 46 years of being stuck on the island, the castaways may have a happy ending to look forward to.

While there has been no announcement made as to whose shoes Gad would slip into, my money’s on Gilligan or the Skipper. What do you guys think? Who do you think Gad should play and who would you cast in the other roles? Hit us up with your suggestions!
