Joss Whedon shared some less-than-kind words about the ending of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

For those of you who haven’t seen any of the Star Wars saga (in which case, book off work and dedicate a day of your life to this saga), The Empire Strikes Back ended with Han Solo frozen in Carbonite. Whedon attributes this cliff-hanger to making The Empire Strikes Back to appear to be more of an episode than a successful film.

The Avengers director explains the ending is a terrible idea. “Well, it’s not an ending,” he continued, “It’s a Come Back Next Week, or in three years. And that upsets me. I go to movies expecting to have a whole experience. If I want a movie that doesn’t end I’ll go to a French movie. That’s a betrayal of trust to me. A movie has to be complete within itself, it can’t just build off the first one or play variations,” reports Digital Spy.

His words, although harsh, resemble those of a loyal and unapologetic fan. He does have a point. I say kudos to Whedon for being blunt.

Star Wars Episode 7 is set to premiere in December 2015, courtesy of JJ Abrams. Let’s see if Whedon approves of this one.
