It looks like Katie Holmes will be joining the cast of the upcoming movie, The Giver, which will be directed by Phillip Noyce.

The movie is based on the young adult story written by Lois Lowry. The plot is about a boy who lives in a utopian society of sorts, but is introduced to the “pain and pleasure of the real world” due to a mysterious old man, who is known as The Giver (played by Jeff Bridges).

Brenton Thwaites, Alexander Skarsgard, and Meryl Streep have also been cast for the film.

Holmes will be playing the role of the boy’s mother, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They go on to say that her character is a “strict obeyer of the laws that govern what is described as an antiseptic society.”

The movie is in pre-production at the moment, with a shoot in South Africa currently happening. However, it looks as though Meryl Streep will be filming in London, seeing as she is currently in the middle of filming, Into The Woods there.

The latest script was written by Michael Mitnick, and has a budget of around $25 million.
