His people have since announced that the broadcasting legend died, aged 74, of a suspected heart attack on Saturday, August 31.

“His family are devastated and ask for privacy at this difficult time. A family funeral will be held in the near future and details of a memorial service will be announced in due course.”

UK Prime Minister David Cameron was quick to pay tribute, tweeting: “My heart goes out to David Frost’s family. He could be – and certainly was with me – both a friend and a fearsome interviewer.”

The Frost Report and Through the Keyhole were a couple of his more memorable shows, whilst his Nixon interview became the inspiration for the 2008 Academy Award nominated movie, Frost/Nixon. See the trailer below to get a feel for the interview’s notoriety.

Stephen Fry responded poignantly on Twitter as well: “Oh heavens, David Frost dead? No!! I only spoke to him on Friday and he sounded so well. Excited about a house move, full of plans… how sad.”

Sir David seems to have touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts go out to his wife of 30 years, Carina, and their three sons.
