It has been known for a while that Lorde would be involved with the soundtrack of Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1. After all, she has been a tease about it for a while now. The song, titled “Yellow Flicker Beat”, has now finally been unveiled.
Try to remember the first sound that came to your mind, once it was announced that Lorde was working on music for Hunger Games. “Yellow Flicker Beat” sounds exactly like that, if not better. The battle anthem kicks off softly, before it explodes into the battle anthem that it really is. A slick alt-pop mix of haunting synths and drums, the norm for the songstress, only given a more massive and triumphant approach. After all, it is all about Katniss Everdeen becoming the Mockingjay and leading the rebels to the war. Lorde herself described her creation as her “attempt at getting inside her head, Katniss.”
The songstress wrote the track with her casual collaborator, Joel Little, while the production was helmed by Paul Epworth. The producer has previously won an Oscar for his work on Adele’s “Skyfall”, for the James Bond film of the same title. Do you think he can win another one with “Yellow Flicker Beat”? Take a listen to the song and judge for yourself.
