A Malaysia Airlines flight carrying 239 people from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing has vanished from all radars and authorities fear a crash is almost inevitable.
Subang Air Traffic Control lost contact with the plane on Friday at 1:40pm ET (2:40am Saturday local). CEO Ahmad Juahari released a statement on behalf of the airline stating, “Focus of the airline is to work with the emergency responders and authorities and mobilize its full support,” Yahya’s statement read. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected passengers and crew and their family members.” The airline has contacted all immediate family members and has assembled them in one place to relay relevant information.
As of now, there has been no news to whether the plane is confirmed crashed or not, but the duration of the flight was over the ocean. Malaysia as well as Vietnam have reported joint search and rescue as well as emergency rescue on stand-by.
The passengers of the plane, as reported by the airline, are as follows: “14 nationalities were among the 227 passengers, including at least 152 Chinese, 38 Malaysians, 12 Indonesians, six Australians and three Americans. It also said a Chinese infant and an American infant were on board.”
It has also just been released that two passengers onboard, an Austrian and an Italian, were in fact not on board. These two men were found safely at home and the only thing linking them to the plane was their stolen passports. Both men reported the passports stolen in Thailand in 2012 and 2013.
Both US and European officials have stated that there is no definite link between the stolen passports and a terrorist act, but nothing is confirmed as of yet.
