With upcoming films like LBJ (2017), Battle of the Sexes (2017), and Darkest Hour (2017), we are not at a shortage for biopics this fall. Thanks to a first new trailer we have another one to add to the plate entitled Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House (2017).
Yes, it’s a long title, but this new dramatic thriller sure looks good. Based on the true story, Liam Neeson stars in the title role of FBI agent Mark Felt, also known as “Deep Throat,” the man who, along with reporters Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward, exposed the Watergate scandal of 1974. Neeson is here back in action and looking better than ever, and might even garner some Oscar buzz from this performance, but honestly, can the man do any wrong?
If you haven’t seen All the President’s Men (1976), bring it to the top of your list to brush up on Watergate. The film stars Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman as the dynamic journalist duo of Woodward and Bernstein, respectively, and it won four Academy Awards out of eight nominations (including Best Picture). While the character of Deep Throat (portrayed marvelously by the great Hal Holbrook) was featured in that film, it was quite sparingly, with Woodward and Bernstein taking the limelight in the reporting side of things, so it will be interesting to see this story from a different, and more personal perspective of Mark Felt himself in the investigating side of things.
Without a doubt, Mark Felt is definitely a film to put on your radar with another stellar performance from Liam Neeson and lots of nail-biting, intense action and drama to keep even the most authoritative Watergate aficionados (whether they were alive at the time of the actual event or not) in suspense.
Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down The White House will star Liam Neeson (Taken (2008)), Diane Lane (Secretariat (2010)), Maika Monroe (It Follows (2014)), Josh Lucas (A Beautiful Mind (2001)), Tony Goldwyn (Scandal (2012-)), Michael C. Hall (Dexter (2006-13)), and Bruce Greenwood (Star Trek (2009)), and hits theaters right around the corner on September 29, 2017.
