Melissa McCarthy has finally spoken publicly about the Gilmore Girls revival and it is not good news, fans. In a tweet Tuesday afternoon, McCarthy revealed that she has not been asked to participate in the upcoming Netflix revival of the hit show.
McCarthy played the bubbly Chef Sookie St. James for seven seasons on Gilmore Girls, frequently stealing every scene. This heartbreaking news comes right on the heels of Netflix finally confirming the return of the show along with stars Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop, Scott Patterson, Sean Gunn and Keiko Agena. Yanic Truesdale later confirmed via Twitter that he will be returning as Michel.
In an interview with TV Line, creator and producer Amy Sherman-Palladino said of McCarthy, “She’s really f–king busy. But the thing I have said [to her team] is, ‘Look, if Melissa is available and has an afternoon free, I’ll write her a scene. Melissa was one of us. If she has a spare moment to run over [to the set] — even if for just a cameo — we would be totally game. And if it’s a last-minute thing, I would write her in and we would figure it out. That’s the way we left it.”
Also unconfirmed so far is Jared Padalecki (Dean), Liza Weil (Paris), Milo Ventimiglia (Jesse) and Matt Czuchry (Logan).
Hopefully, we can chalk it up to a miscommunication somewhere along the line because Stars Hollow just won’t be the same without our beloved Sookie.
